Tottenham Hotspur are yet to make a formal approach to sign Ivan Toney.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has reported that the Premier League club haven’t taken their pursuit of the striker any further than just interest.
Tottenham said goodbye to Harry Kane this summer as he joined Bayern Munich in a £100 million deal, however they failed to replace him despite being aware of his impending exit for months.
Ange Postecoglou has welcomed the likes of Brennan Johnson, James Maddison and Alejo Veliz to the club in order to bolster the attack, but their summer signings are far from the goalscoring output that Kane enjoyed for so many years.
It is unsurprisingly extremely difficult to replace one of the world’s best strikers – especially when Tottenham currently don’t have European football on offer.
However, one striker that seems to be a perfect match for Spurs is Ivan Toney. The Brentford striker is currently serving a eight-month ban for betting offences but will return to action in the new year and could well be on his way out of his current club.

Tottenham are one side that have been heavily linked with the forward, who has scored 32 goals in the Premier League since Brentford were promoted two years ago.
Postecoglou’s side will face huge competition for Toney’s signature though, with Chelsea and Arsenal also said to be interested. They would also likely have to cough up around £80m, though that would be where the Kane cash would come in very handy.
Despite clearly having the money to snap Toney up, Romano has confirmed that the North London outfit are yet to progress with their interest in the England international.
Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, the journalist said: “We have to wait, let’s see what happens. At the moment we have Tottenham in the rumours. At the moment there’s still no formal approach.
“We have Chelsea, they are interested in Ivan Toney. They asked in June, July for in 2024, but now he’s changed his agent so they will have to restart the conversation, but the interest is still there.”
Tottenham need Toney
Tottenham still have over three months to wait until the January transfer window opens and you would like to think they will go in for Ivan Toney once the new year arrives.

Spurs aren’t going to get a striker of the same quality as Kane, but Toney is probably the most ideal replacement. The 27-year-old managed a whopping 20 goals for Brentford last season and would have much higher quality players around him under Postecoglou.
Hopefully, Tottenham will make an approach as soon as they can as they are going to have to battle very hard to lure him in. Brentford won’t let him go for cheap and the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea won’t want to lose out to their rivals.
