Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is hoping the club will secure the permanent signing of Timo Werner.

The German joined in the January transfer window on an initial short-term loan.

Impressive form of late may now just see Ange Postecoglou’s mind made up on potentially keeping the 28-year-old around beyond this season.

Timo Werner’s permanent option

According to GiveMeSport, the Australian boss is now keen for Spurs to wrap up the deal to keep Timo Werner around at Hotspur Way.

The report says Tottenham have the option to make Werner’s stay permanent for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £15m.

It was a move which saw the forward return to the Premier League after enduring some struggles during his time with Chelsea.

But it is also suggested that the Lilywhites have a keen interest in the 21-year-old Nico Williams to bolster their front line.

Timo Werner goals for Tottenham

The move for Werner in the January window may have raised some eyebrows, but it is a move which is beginning to pay off.

In his seven Premier League appearances, the German has now returned two goals and two assists.

He has even netted in his last two consecutive games now; with the latest coming from the bench against Aston Villa.

It was the winger’s birthday last week which saw him turn 28, but Heung-min Son is showing age is just a number as he continues to show his stunning form.

Out wide, Postecoglou perhaps has some of his strongest depth at the moment.

Brennan Johnson is coming into his own of late having endured a slow start to the campaign and Dejan Kulusevski continues to provide a solid return.

Werner is fitting into that cohort of wingers nicely and offered Spurs a real threat off the bench on Sunday at Villa Park.

Even Postecoglou has hailed the German for his recent displays saying he has been “really aggressive” in attacking his opposing full-back.

There is still a lot of football to play this season, so it will be interesting to see if Werner continues to show an upwards trajectory in form.
