Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about how Richarlison’s latest injury and Dominic Solanke’s illness has impacted Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans.
Tottenham’s squad has been heavily impacted by injuries this season with Postecoglou with five regular starters against Fulham. Spurs missed Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and Solanke on the weekend, with Mikey Moore, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert also sidelined.
Heung-min Son played as Tottenham’s number nine against Fulham and it was clear that playing down the middle does not suit him. The North London club really could do with signing another attacker and Postecoglou has been discussing that possibility.

Ange Postecoglou wants a more reliable forward to replace Richarlison
Ange Postecgolou has explained how Richralison’s injury means Tottenham will need to add an attacker in the near future. The Brazilian not being available is also impacting Dominic Solanke who Postecoglou is having to be overly reliant on and leaves Spurs with no cover if he was to get injured.
The Australian said he is keen for the North London club to start planning to bring in another forward who can provide cover for Solanke and replace Richarlison. January is notoriously difficult to get first-choice targets so signing a new forward next month will be tricky and it will most likely be a situation they address in the summer.
Postecoglou told the media: “With Richy, it has been frustrating because I see the potential in him and to be fair when he’s been fit he’s always made an impact. That’s what you kind of hold on to, but there’s no doubt we need some bolstering in that front third over the next couple of transfer windows.
“Dom coming in has been great, but again we can’t overload him either, because ultimately, even if he stays fit and nothing happens, performance will invariably drop if his energy levels drop. So it’s something we’re aware of and need to plan for.”
Tottenham actively targeting an attacker
To learn more about Tottenham’s pursuit of an attacker, The Spurs News exclusively spoke to transfer insider Graeme Bailey of TBR Football who said that the North London club have long been thinking of adding a new forward.
Richarlison’s latest issue is not the cause of their pursuit of a new frontman. The Lilywhites are continuing to assess their options with a more creative option being preferred at this stage, rather than signing another number nine.
Bailey told The Spurs News: “Obviously, it’s a frustration, they love him as a player but injuries are clearly an issue. A player in the final third is something they’re looking at, not necessarily for January.
“They’ve been thinking about it for a while, not really based on Richarlison. Does Richarlison’s injury mean they’re more likely to target a striker? Potentially, but I think they would like a more creative player. We’ll see how it works out if one becomes available. January is a tough market though.”
