Alasdair Gold thinks there’s two signings Tottenham are going to have to make after Wolves game

Tottenham Hotspur will likely make a move to bring in two new full-backs in the summer transfer window following the defeat on the weekend.

Defeat against Wolves saw Ange Postecoglou’s side slip out of the top four and pressure from sixth-placed Manchester United was turned up.

Injuries played their part with the team selection for the game against Gary O’Neil’s side with Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro both absent.

Tottenham to bring in full-backs

The loss on Saturday saw both Ben Davies and Emerson Royal start in the full-back positions with the starting options out through injury.

However, it was apparent Davies and Royal did not provide the same attacking threat as Postecoglou’s usual starting full-backs.

And this has seen question marks asked of whether Spurs have the required strength in depth to replace their starting players when injuries hit the club.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has now hinted towards the club bringing in a new full-back for each side in the summer window: ‘It makes you see how they’re probably going to have to go into the market in the summer. I think I said before I’d assume they’d get one full-back. The more I look at it, maybe they go for two.’

Upgrading squad options

For some, Royal and Davies may be seen as solid defensive options who could offer sufficient back-up for Porro and Udogie when needed.

However, their displays on the weekend would suggest that, actually, maybe they massively hinder the way Postecoglou wants to play football.

Udogie has been a real attacking threat for Spurs this season and has been able to find the back of the net twice in the Premier League this term.

But Davies squandered a golden opportunity to earn Spurs a point in the dying minutes of the game with what appeared to be a fairly simple header.

It can sometimes take just one moment to define a player’s performance and it really felt like that was the moment for Davies on Saturday.

Neither Royal or Davies were able to deliver an accurate cross on the weekend which immediately reduced Richarlison’s threat.

It will be hard to find players of similar quality willing to play as back-up to Udogie and Porro, but it is apparent we need players who play a similar attacking style.
