Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly already looking ahead to the summer transfer window and one huge name has already been linked.

Top four is a realistic target for Ange Postecoglou’s side in the Australian’s first season as the Spurs manager.

And securing Champions League football could open the door to a higher calibre of potential arrivals in the summer market.

Joshua Kimmich a target for Tottenham

Recent reports have suggested the Lilywhites hold an interest in Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich teammate, Joshua Kimmich, who is valued between £40-60m.

Spurs are not the only Premier League club who have been credited with an interest as Liverpool and Manchester City have also been heavily linked.

Speaking about the links to the German midfielder, transfer expert Dean Jones has been left stunned by Spurs’ ambition to rival the likes of City: “My reaction would be that they will have a hell of a fight on their hands because Manchester City are definitely looking into Kimmich’s situation.”

“I think it’s a great sign of the times for Tottenham that they could even be contemplating a signing of this nature. But I think it’s probably a bit too soon to be competing for a player of this level, with him coming out of Bayern and there being links with clubs like Manchester City.”

Kimmich would bring winning experience

The 28-year-old has now been playing for Bayern since 2015 and has racked up a whopping 370 appearances for the Bundesliga giants.

In that time, he has also been able to get his hands on his fair share of silverware with eight German titles and a Champions League just some of the major honours he has won.

This is perhaps a key feature Postecoglou’s side is currently missing in north London.

There is a lot of excitement about the future under the Australian, but currently, there is not too much experience in terms of lifting silverware.

It could be argued it has not worked in the past with players such as Ivan Perisic and even managers like Antonio Conte. But Kimmich is still well in his prime at the age of 28, but beating the likes of City to his signature could prove a huge ask.

Spurs have already beaten Barcelona to Lucas Bergvall and Bayern to Radu Dragusin, but a player of Kimmich’s ilk could prove a real challenge to land.
