Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon is set to join Brentford on loan until the end of the season.

Reguilon has only recently returned from a loan spell at Manchester United after having his move to Old Trafford cut short.

The Spaniard made 12 appearances in all competitions under Erik ten Hag but United ultimately decided to send him back to Tottenham due to the return of Luke Shaw.

It’s fair to say that Reguilon’s move to Spurs just hasn’t worked out and he’s currently out of favour under Ange Postecoglou

The full-back arrived for a fee worth around £32 million in the summer of 2020 after a promising loan spell at Sevilla.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old is set for his third spell out on loan since joining Spurs as he’s agreed to a short-term move to Brentford.

Reguilon set to join Brentford on loan

Romano took to X on Tuesday evening and claimed that Reguilon is set for his medical at Brentford today.

The defender will join Thomas Frank’s side on a six-month loan deal with no option for the Bees to sign him this summer.

He wrote: “Sergio Reguilón to Brentford, here we go! Final green light just arrived after verbal agreement between clubs.

“Loan move with NO option to buy clause as Sergio will be back to Tottenham at the end of the season. Medical tests on Wednesday. Exclusive story, confirmed.”

Spurs are well-stocked at left-back at the moment, with Destiny Udogie enjoying an exceptional debut season.

Ryan Sessegnon continues to struggle with his fitness but Emerson Royal has also slotted in at left-back in Udogie’s absence this term.

Ben Davies has mainly been playing as a centre-back this term but left-back remains his most natural position.

It makes sense for Tottenham to offload Reguilon once again but they will surely be looking for a more permanent solution over the summer.

It’s clear the former Real Madrid defender doesn’t feature in Postecoglou’s plans and it feels like his days at Spurs are numbered.
