Micky van de Ven looks set to be a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s plans at Tottenham next season, but he could now be used in a different role.

Tottenham are wasting no time in backing their new manager and could have as many as four new signings before the World Cup.

The North London club have already agreed deals to sign Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers; meanwhile, deals for Savinho and Jan Paul van Hecke are also being discussed.

With two new centre-backs arriving through the door at Hotspur Way, Van de Ven’s role in the squad could actually be about to change.

Micky van de Ven could be moved to left-back at Tottenham

Micky van de Ven could actually be set for a move to left-back at Tottenham Hotspur following the signing of Senesi.

Tottenham have completed the capture of Senesi, who plays as a left-sided centre-back and will surely be set for regular minutes.

Senesi has signed his contract with the Lilywhites and undergone his medical, according to Fabrizio Romano, ahead of the deal being announced.

Given his age and the clubs Spurs will have beaten off to sign him, surely there will have been a guarantee of regular minutes for the 28-year-old.

So if Senesi is starting at left centre-back, that could see Van de Ven switched to the left-back position, giving him more license to carry the ball.

Virgil van Dijk and Van Hecke were Ronald Koeman’s defensive partnership against Algeria, with Van de Ven at left-back, and this is where he could play at the World Cup this summer.

Van de Ven’s incredible athleticism means that he can play in a more attacking role, and that is where he plays most of his minutes for the Netherlands.

The Dutch international’s incredible goal against FC Copenhagen during last season’s Champions League proves why he can play there.

But equally, if Senesi is not starting, a potential partnership of Van de Ven and Van Hecke could be very exciting, replicating the duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
