Tottenham appointing Thomas Frank in the summer was supposed to be the start of a bright new era, but right now, he’s clinging on for dear life.
It’s hard to understand what has gone wrong. However, defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup showcased everything that was wrong about Tottenham during the 2025/26 campaign.
Frank looked miserable on the touchline. Okay, managers don’t have to be all smiles, but football is supposed to be enjoyable, right?
It’s not really a wonder that Frank is failing. After all, Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, two of the all-time managerial greats, couldn’t prosper at Tottenham, but this felt different.
Frank earned his stripes at Brentford, wowing with a data-driven approach, and it was anticipated that he’d be tailor-made for the role. Frankly, however, his time is up…

Tottenham can’t waste another minute on Thomas Frank
Spurs have won just seven of their 21 matches this season, with eight Premier League games ending in defeat.
Forest and Bournemouth both sit lower in the table than Tottenham, yet they scored three goals against Frank’s fragile team when they came up against them.
Frank prided himself on well-organised teams that set up to play proper football, with intricate passing and a possession-based strategy was always the order of the day at Brentford.
Finish the sentence: Tottenham’s most promising youngster is _____________
Tottenham, meanwhile, have no real style to note from the 21 Premier League games overseen by Frank, and the team looks badly devoid of any real creativity.
The attitude of certain players also looks bleak. Joao Palhinha sparked a mass brawl against Villa, and it would seem as though something isn’t quite right inside the Tottenham dressing room.
Micky van de Ven has recently claimed that he’s unsure over signing a new deal, and as one of Tottenham’s top players, that is deeply concerning, with all fingers pointing to Frank.
Furthermore, there is clear evidence that Frank is feeling the pressure. In midweek, he drank from a cup with an Arsenal logo on and his meticulous mindset simply hasn’t been there in recent weeks.
Tottenham should go for Oliver Glasner
With the players seemingly revolting against Frank, it does look as though the writing is firmly on the wall for the head coach at Tottenham.
What Spurs need when the inevitable happens and the sack falls on Frank, is to go all guns blazing for Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, which might seem odd considering he’s just been humbled by non-league Macclesfield in the FA Cup.
😠 Fill in the blank: I blame ________________ for Tottenham’s shocking form!
Thomas Frank, injuries, the board or a combination of issues?
The beauty of Glasner is that he’s not bothered by what people think about his system. He plays a style that suits attacking football and has enjoyed trophy-winning success at Eintracht Frankfurt and Palace.
With a contract stand-off evident between Palace and Glasner, it does feel as though he will land a big job, and why shouldn’t that be Tottenham when Frank departs?
