Tottenham have another brilliant player who hasn’t even trained under Ange Postecoglou yet

The Ange Postecoglou era at Tottenham Hotspur has got off to a flyer and Spurs look in good shape at the beginning of the campaign.

Tottenham secured a massive three points on Saturday evening with a 2-0 victory over Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.

It was Postecoglou’s first big scalp in what was his home debut and it will certainly go down as a statement win for the Aussie.

In just a matter of weeks, he’s managed to transform Spurs from a dull, counter-attacking side into one that looks to take the game to the opposition.

The midfield three of James Maddison, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr were the standout performers against United over the weekend.

Maddison and Bissouma continued their brilliant early-season form while Sarr bagged his first goal for the club.

But amidst an encouraging start to life in North London, it’s easy to forget that Postecoglou has another talented midfielder who’s set to return from injury next month in Rodrigo Bentancur.

Bentancur return could be huge boost for Postecoglou

Bentancur was arguably Tottenham’s most consistent performer last season before he ruptured the cruciate ligament in his left knee at Leicester City back in February.

The Uruguayan midfielder was a real shining light for Antonio Conte and seems well-suited to Postecoglou’s system.

Indeed, Bentancur’s standout qualities are his composure on the ball and his tireless work rate off it. These attributes will fit in well with Postecoglou’s brand of football and it seems he could be back slightly ahead of schedule.

The Evening Standard claims he could be back in action for Spurs by mid-September.

Of course, Bentancur is yet to even take part in full training since Postecoglou’s arrival and will need time to get back to full fitness after such a lengthy lay-off.

But Spurs will be hopeful the Uruguay star manages to get back to his best and put what was a serious injury behind him.

Tottenham could boast a mouth-watering midfield-three of Bissouma, Maddison and Bentancur by the end of the year, which is an exciting prospect for Spurs fans.
