Thomas Frank will be worried that two of his best Tottenham players are struggling to play together

Tottenham have made significant additions to their starting side to assist the new manager this season, however he is facing difficulties getting the best out of two of them at the same time.

Thomas Frank is still getting to grips with who is in his strongest side, and has not completely solved the issue that is their Premier League form.

Spurs essentially gave up on the competition under Ange Postecoglou in order to favour the Europa League, and while they currently sit in the top four there have been some disappointing results of note already.

The most recent outing saw them rescue a late draw against Wolves, who before that game didn’t have a point on the board so far this season.

Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus are struggling to play together

Frank criticised Xavi Simons’ performance after the game, with the new signing continuing to start on the left of attack.

Many Spurs fans have called for Simons to start in the number 10 role, however when he moved there in the latter stages against Wolves he struggled to form a partnership with Mohammed Kudus, who was at this point in the less-familiar role of left-winger.

The duo continued to get in each other’s way throughout this spell, perhaps answering the question many have had as to why Simons hasn’t been too close to him on the pitch so far.

Kudus has been a near ever-present since joining Spurs in the starting side, however Frank will be starting to get concerned that his two marquee signings are not best suited to be playing alongside each other.

Frank’s alternatives to starting both Kudus and Simons

It would be an extremely bold call to drop one of the two summer additions, however there are alternatives in the Spurs squad to start in those positions.

Brennan Johnson can count himself unfortunate he is not a part of the starting side right now after making a strong start to the campaign in front of goal, and he has frequently been used off the bench since.

He will be waiting in the wings for his chance again, as well as Mathys Tel, who is very much looking to kickstart his career in North London after joining permanently.
