Forget Iling-Junior, Tottenham need to go all out to sign £34m winger who caused Arsenal huge problems in the Champions League

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a January swoop for Juventus winger Samuel Iling-Junior.

Ange Postecoglou will undoubtedly be prioritising a move for a new centre-back following Micky van de Ven’s injury. But if opportunities arise in other areas of the pitch, Tottenham could strengthen elsewhere.

One man who has been earmarked as a potential forward target is Samuel Iling-Junior.

Spurs have been unfortunate when it comes to injuries this season, with Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic both currently sidelined for the long term. It’s left Postecoglou short of cover across the frontline, with the likes of Bryan Gil getting some minutes under his belt of late.

The Evening Standard recently claimed that Spurs are leading the race to sign £15.5 million-rated Iling-Junior.

But in our view, they should go for the winger who caused Arsenal huge problems in the Champions League last night – Johan Bakayoko.

Spurs should go all out for Bakayoko

Bakayoko has already been linked with a move to Tottenham, with Sky Sports claiming Postecoglou’s men are interested in a move for the talented winger.

The 20-year-old has impressed in the Netherlands this term, registering 13 assists and netting four goals in 26 appearances.

His latest display against Arsenal in the Champions League last night offered an insight as to what he could bring to this current Tottenham side.

Bakayoko was a constant threat down the right-hand side and caused Jakub Kiwior huge problems.

The Belgian was unfortunate not to grab at least one assist on the night as he created plenty of openings for his teammates.

He also went close in the first half after his shot flashed just wide of Aaron Ramsdale’s post following a brilliant solo run.

But what makes him such an exciting option for Tottenham is his ability to beat defenders.

Spurs are currently lacking wingers who specialise in 1v1 situations. Heung-Min Son stepped up to the plate on Sunday as he created two goals by beating his former teammate Kieran Trippier.

But that was a rare sight this term and for all of Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski’s brilliant attributes, they hardly specialise in beating their man.

Bakayoko ticks plenty of boxes for Postecoglou as a winger who can operate on either flank. He feels like a more exciting option than Iling-Junior at the moment, with the Juve winger struggling for minutes in Turin.

Of course, he will fetch a much higher price as Brentford launched a club-record £34 million bid to land him over the summer.

Yet, he’s exactly the type of profile Postecoglou is lacking at the moment and he would add a different dynamic to our forward line.
