Ange Postecoglou has already dropped hint that £42m Tottenham player will start against West Ham

Ange Postecoglou has already dropped a hint that Cristian Romero will come straight back into the Tottenham Hotspur side on Thursday.

Cristian Romero has missed Tottenham’s last three Premier League games following his red card against Chelsea last month.

The 25-year-old was dismissed in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea after a reckless challenge on his compatriot Enzo Fernandez.

Spurs also lost Micky van de Ven to a hamstring injury during the game, which has left Ange Postecoglou short at centre-back over the past few weeks. 

The Aussie boss has opted to play two full-backs in the position for Tottenham’s last two games. Emerson Royal has played alongside Ben Davies, with Spurs picking up a surprise 3-3 draw at Manchester City on Sunday. 

And while Postecoglou praised the duo for stepping up, it seems he is planning to bring Romero straight back into the side.

Postecoglou hints Romero will start against West Ham

Speaking to beIN SPORTS after Sunday’s clash at the Etihad Stadium, Postecoglou admitted it will be a huge boost for Spurs to have Romero back. 

“We’ll get Romero back which will be massive for us, we have missed him,” the Tottenham boss said.

“Emerson and Ben Davies have done an outstanding job but we need a centre-back and you see today with some of the defensive actions and crosses are a challenge for us. So we will get Romero back.” 

Spurs have lost three of their last four Premier League games since Romero’s sending-off against Chelsea.

The Argentine had been in formidable form beforehand after being handed the vice-captaincy over the summer. But it’s fair to say the occasion got to the £42 million defender in the London derby and Spurs have missed him dearly. 

It’s no real surprise to hear Postecoglou suggest Romero will come straight back in as Tottenham have been playing without a recognised senior centre-back of late.

Davies, in particular, has performed well since coming back into the side and he seems the most likely to partner Romero against West Ham on Thursday.
