£20m Tottenham player may have now saved his Spurs career

Tottenham Hotspur are set for a busy end to the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his ranks before deadline day.

Spurs have made two new signings so far, bringing Archie Gray to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and securing the signature of Yang Min-hyuk.

Tottenham could also get some more outgoings over the line, with a number of players seemingly surplus to requirements.

The likes of Oliver Skipp, Giovani Lo Celso, Emerson Royal, Manor Solomon and Sergio Reguilon could all be in line to leave Spurs in the coming weeks.

However, one Tottenham player who looked on course to be offloaded just a few weeks ago may have now done enough to save his Spurs career.

Djed Spence could now stay at Tottenham

The player in question is Djed Spence, who has faced an uphill battle to impress at Tottenham ever since he joined.

The 23-year-old only joined Spurs two years ago, but he has already taken in three loan spells while on the Lilywhites’ books.

In addition, Spence has only made six competitive appearances for Tottenham, and for a while, it looked as though that could be his final tally at N17.

Tottenham seemed more than ready to sell the £20million man to Genoa after his loan spell in Italy, only for a deal to break down.

Then, it was reported that Spurs were preparing to offer the former Middlesbrough man to other clubs.

‘Now an option for Spurs’

However, since then, Spence has turned a corner, doing very well in pre-season, and is said to have impressed coaches with his attitude.

“Thrown into the mix is the fact that Djed Spence, you know, I suppose you could call it a somewhat surprising pre-season where he’s really impressed,” journalist Mike McGrath recently said on the Last Word On Spurs.

“I think some people were reporting that he had moved to, or was certainly on the brink of a move to a foreign club.

“He’s been playing, from what I’ve been told, his attitude has been spot on, and he’s actually now an option for Spurs.”

Spence is able to provide cover for both Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro on both sides of the defence, potentially saving Spurs from having to make two new additions.

There’s now a good chance Postecoglou could make a dramatic U-turn on Spence, so this is certainly a situation to watch in the coming weeks.
