Giovani Lo Celso may have given Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou some food for thought after his latest display for Argentina.

Argentina picked up a 1-0 win over Brazil last night thanks to Nicolas Otamendi’s second-half effort.

Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso started from the off and provided the assist for what turned out to be the winner.

Lo Celso is yet to start in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou this season, with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup against Fulham.

That’s largely been down to James Maddison’s exceptional start to life in North London after joining from Leicester City over the summer.

But with the England star ruled out until January, many were surprised to see Postecoglou name a defensive midfield three in the 2-1 defeat at Wolves last time out.

Lo Celso did come on for the final 15 minutes of the game and made an impression.

Yet, his performance for Lionel Scaloni’s side against Brazil may just convince Postecoglou to start him against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Postecoglou could hand Lo Celso fresh chance against Villa

Lo Celso got a valuable 70 minutes under his belt last night as he started from the off against Brazil.

The 27-year-old set up Otamendi for the winner and put in another impressive display for Argentina.

Indeed, South American football expert Tim Vickery claimed on talkSPORT this morning that Lo Celso enjoyed a ‘good’ game

Argentine outlet TyC Sports also handed the Spurs man a seven out of 10 rating for his performance.

They wrote: “He played a lot with his back in the first half hour, too much. When he faced the rival, he hinted more.

“Great execution in the corner that led to Otamendi’s goal. Good 70′ from Gio.”

Of course, Lo Celso has consistently performed for Argentina while he’s been largely underwhelming when handed the opportunity at Spurs.

But with a lack of creativity in midfield at the moment, Lo Celso would go some way to filling the void left by the injured Maddison.

There’s a notable gap in class between Lo Celso and Maddison. But the Argentine impressed in pre-season under Postecoglou, netting two times in three friendlies.

He’s shown he is capable of performing in the Aussie’s system and in our view, he deserves a chance to impress on Sunday against Villa.
