Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon could be set to be handed an opportunity to save his career in north London.

News has now broken of Destiny Udogie’s injury which will mean the Italian is sidelined for at least the game against Wolves.

Ryan Sessegnon injury latest

The 23-year-old Tottenham player was sidelined for a large chunk of the season after he was forced to undergo surgery.

He was able to make his return in the FA Cup clash against Burnley back in January, but he then suffered another hamstring issue.

However, the £25m Spurs signing was spotted on Thursday as the squad took part in an open training session at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

His presence could suggest he may be in the picture to potentially earn a spot in the matchday squad after the updates on Udogie and Pedro Porro.

Even further bad news broke on Friday from Ange Postecoglou’s press conference with Fraser Forster set to miss months due to a fractured foot.

Postecoglou’s trust in his squad

Having signed from Fulham back in 2019, Sessegnon has only been able to tally up a mere 57 appearances for Spurs across all competitions.

And in those games, he has only provided a return of three goals and four assists.

For a player who arrived having been crowned the Championship Player and Young Player of the Year for 2018, we were certainly hoping for more.

It is likely Ben Davies will step up and start against Wolves as natural left-back cover, however, it has to be said, Sessegnon is probably a more like-for-like replacement.

Of course, putting the 23-year-old in from the go is incredibly unlikely given he’s played seven minutes of football all season, but if Udogie is out for longer than expected, then perhaps there is an opportunity for him.

It feels like it is make or break for the left-back in a Spurs shirt – perhaps it’s even gone beyond that now – but a fit Sessegnon feels like a great fit for this Postecoglou side.

On paper, he is a player who could offer a real threat in attack, just as Udogie has done all season, with Davies providing more of a defensive option.

Just one-year remains on the contract of the Englishman ahead of the summer and it does feel like his opportunities to impress may now be fading.
