24-year-old has quietly been Tottenham’s most improved player under Ange Postecoglou this season

Pedro Porro’s performances for Tottenham Hotspur have gone slightly under the radar so far this season.

The 24-year-old was snapped up by Tottenham from Sporting Lisbon back in January as he was signed as a wing-back under Antonio Conte.

It’s fair to say that Porro endured a difficult start to life in North London as he struggled to adjust to Premier League football.

The Spaniard displayed his quality going forward last season but was often a liability going the other way.

Many expected Porro to struggle after Ange Postecoglou came through the door over the summer.

The Aussie boss has always favoured a back four and given Porro’s defensive issues in a back five, it was difficult to see how he’d cope at full-back.

But in our view, he’s been the most improved player at Spurs in Postecoglou’s tenure so far.

Porro has quietly excelled under Postecoglou this season

Porro actually missed out on the starting XI on the opening day at Brentford this season.

Postecoglou opted for Emerson Royal at right-back and the Brazilian marked a solid display with an impressive goal from outside the box.

Royal then dropped to the bench the following game as Spurs picked up a 2-0 win over Manchester United.

And Postecoglou’s decision to reintroduce Porro certainly raised a few eyebrows on the day. Yet, the Spaniard hasn’t looked back since and has started in every single Premier League thereafter.

While there are still some question marks over Porro’s defensive awareness, few could have expected him to adjust to Postecoglou’s demands so swiftly.

The former Sporting man has excelled in an inverted full-back role and his defensive improvements have been there for all to see.

He has been caught out on a couple of occasions this season but it’s evident he’s working incredibly hard to tighten up the defensive side of his game.

At just 24, you’d imagine that Porro will only continue to improve under Postecoglou’s guidance and after a shaky start to life at Spurs, he’s been one of their most consistent performers this term.
