Dane Scarlett looks to be finally finding his feet on loan at Oxford United following what was a tricky start to life at the Championship club.

The striker has struggled to find his way into the team with the U’s but his recent form earned him his first league start since April 2023.

Scarlett was put into the lineup by Des Buckingham against Derby County as a reward for netting a late equaliser to salvage a point at home to West Brom.

The 20-year-old rewarded the manager’s trust with another goal as he found the back of the net for the second game running in the Championship.

He has now scored in each of his last three matches for club and county having also scored for England U21 during the international break.

Tottenham fans delighted with Dane Scarlett’s goal vs Derby

Scarlett found the back of the net once again in the 12th minute to hand Oxford the lead, however, Derby managed to pull a goal back in the second-half to deny them the win.

The Tottenham loanee produced a cute finish for his goal as he got ahead of his man in the penalty area and found the far corner from a great cutback.

He has appeared in seven of Oxford’s 11 Championship matches and this was his first start in the league for his new loan club.

Spurs supporters are now hoping this can be the moment for his career to finally kick on and they took to X to share their delight for the forward.

One fan said: “I’m sorry Dane Scarlett is good. Like he’s actually got a lot about him. If Liam Delap can take the leap from Hull to the prem then so can Scarlett.”

“Never doubted him many on here did the kid just needed proper minutes to play big up Dane Scarlett,” another added.

Finally, one supporter believes Tottenham fans were far too quick to write of Scarlett: “The way people wrote off Scarlett so quickly is jokes. Proper talented striker.”

Can Dane Scarlett make it at Tottenham?

Scarlett probably hasn’t shown enough just yet to suggest he could return to Tottenham and become a regular for the North London club.

So far, he’s had three tricky loan spells in which he has shown glimpses of promise, however, at Portsmouth, Ipswich and now at Oxford, he has struggled to make much of an impact.

The 20-year-old made just 12 appearances on loan at Ipswich in the Championship last season and ended up having his loan spell cut short in January.

Hopefully, his run of goals can be the catalyst to his career finally taking off having shown so much promise at youth level, but there is a long way to go for him to be at Tottenham level.
