Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke returned to the England fold on Thursday night as he came on in the Three Lions’ 2-1 Nations League defeat to Greece.

The Spurs striker has been rewarded for his efforts over the past 12 months, during which he was prolific for Bournemouth and earned himself a move to N17.

Solanke, who was injured for England’s games last month, joined Tottenham in a £65milllion deal from the Cherries over the summer.

The 27-year-old needed a few weeks to find his feet and recover from injury, but now he’s on three goals and two assists from eight Spurs outings.

Solanke had to make do with a spot on the bench in Thursday’s match at Wembley, but he was given his chance as he replaced Phil Foden in the 72nd minute.

Here is what a number of English media outlets said about the Tottenham man’s first England cap since November 2017.

Dominic Solanke does well enough in England cameo

The Evening Standard gave Solanke a 6 out of 10 for his efforts on the night.

They wrote: “Made his second England appearance, seven years after his first. That in itself made his night a major success. Denied a backheel goal by a fine block.”

Meanwhile, The Express went with a 5 out of 10 and wrote: “Making his first England appearance since 2017, Solanke was unable to have an impact on the game.”

Goal.com gave the Spurs man a 6 and wrote: “Made his first England appearance in seven years when he was brought on for Foden. It was his scuffed shot that led to Bellingham firing England level.”

The Sun awarded Solanke a 7, adding: “Grabbed an assist when laying the ball back to Bellingham who thumped in the leveller.”

Finally, 90Min gave the Tottenham striker a 6, writing: “Credited with an assist but, in truth, it wasn’t Bellingham he was looking for with the pass.”

What next for Solanke?

Solanke could potentially feature again for England in their upcoming Nations League meeting with Finland.

The Three Lions face the Finns at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Sunday 13 October, with the game scheduled to kick off at 5pm.

After the international break comes to an end, Tottenham are next in action on Saturday 19 October, as West Ham come to Spurs for a 12:30pm kick-off.
