Tottenham’s new signing Jan Paul van Hecke impresses vs Sweden
Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing Jan Paul van Hecke looked really impressive in the Netherlands’ 5-1 win over Sweden.
Only Virgil van Dijk completed more passes and had more touches than him during the match, as the Spurs defender managed 71 passes and 87 touches.
Defensively, the Dutch defender was also very solid, making six clearances, three recoveries, and four duels won.
After the match, the Dutch media had a lot of good things to say about the 26-year-old and it’s clear Spurs have made a great signing.
- AD gave him 6.5/10: “His first international match as a Spurs player, and in it Van Hecke had a tougher time than in previous matches. He had to be constantly alert against world-class strikers Gyokeres and Isak. He managed to do so with mixed success.”
- Votebal Primeur rated his display 6.5/10: “Van Hecke lost possession dangerously twice during a weaker phase for the Netherlands in the first half. Otherwise, a solid performance from the man from Zeeland, who is leaving for Tottenham Hotspur for sixty million.”
- Finally, Voetbal Zone gave him a 7/10: “Sweden launched dangerous counter-attacks on several occasions, but thanks to Jan Paul van Hecke and particularly Bart Verbruggen, Oranje reached the break without conceding any goals.”
Spurs signed the defender for £52 million from Brighton, but despite him only having one year left on his deal, the Lilywhites look to have made a great choice in getting him.
Roberto De Zerbi made the 26-year-old his first choice signing this summer, and Spurs moved quickly to get a deal sealed.
