Rodrigo Bentancur hasn’t exactly been at his best for Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
The 26-year-old was hooked just after the hour mark in the 2-1 win over Brighton on Saturday afternoon. Bentancur struggled in the first half against the Seagulls as he gave the ball away in dangerous areas on several occasions.
One mistake led to the penalty incident involving Micky van de Ven and despite improving after halftime, he was replaced by Yves Bissouma in the 63rd minute.

The Uruguayan’s patchy form is probably to be expected given he’s suffered two significant injuries over the past year.
And Football.London have explained why the sports science staff at Tottenham believe he’ll be back to his best next season.
What Tottenham’s sports science staff have said about Bentancur
The outlet claims that it was always expected that Bentancur would return to his best in the 2024/25 season amongst the sports science staff at Spurs.
This is down the midfielder suffering a cruciate ligament injury back in February last year.
Bentancur returned to action ahead of schedule following his ACL injury and was quickly back in the starting XI against Aston Villa in November.
A reckless challenge from Matty Cash ended Bentancur’s return in the 30th minute during that clash in north London.
It was initially claimed that Bentancur would be out until February due to an ankle injury. But he returned to action against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.

Spurs fans are fully aware of Bentancur’s ability after he shined under Antonio Conte.
To his credit, he’s put in a couple of brilliant displays and his best arguably came in the game against Villa where his day ended early.
The former Juventus man also bagged a well-taken goal at Old Trafford last month and caught the eye in the 2-2 draw.
We have no doubts that Bentancur will return to his best soon enough and he will need time to rediscover full match sharpness after barely playing for a year.
