Ange Postecoglou has just issued injury updates on Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven as Tottenham Hotspur hope to have both players back soon.

Romero has missed Spurs’ last three matches due to injury and Van de Ven has been sidelined since the end of October. However, the Tottenham boss has just provided positive news on the duo as they recover from their injury issues.

The North London club will be eager to have them back as soon as possible as they face a hectic Christmas period which sees them play eight more matches in December.

Postecoglou’s Romero and Van de Ven injury updates

Ange Postecoglou has just suggested that Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are both close to making their returns from injury. Romero is in contention to play on Thursday against Bournemouth, although he is yet to return to first-team training.

Van de Ven was back training on grass this week as he too closes in on his return from a hamstring injury which has seen him miss the last six matches. The Dutch defender’s return from injury will be a major boost for Postecoglou’s team although he is unlikely to feature this week.

Postecoglou said in his press conference after the draw with Fulham: “Potentially mate [Romero back to face Bournemouth]. He’s getting closer but he still hasn’t trained with the team. So, him and Micky are still working with sports science staff. So, hopefully, not too far away.”

Tottenham’s record with vs without Micky van de Ven

Tottenham’s Premier League record with against without Micky van de Ven is somewhat similar but it would be silly to suggest that Van de Ven isn’t a huge loss for Postecoglou. Spurs have still averaged more points and conceded fewer goals with the Dutchman in their team.

His pace in Postecoglou’s backline is key to allowing the team to play high up the pitch and his more conservative defensive nature compliments Romero’s more aggressive style nicely.
