‘Very difficult’… Timo Werner says defender Tottenham once sold is his toughest ever opponent

Timo Werner has now claimed former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker has been his toughest opponent.

The Lilywhites are flying under Ange Postecoglou and are looking to return to the Champions League fot next season.

With a game in hand on the sides above them, Spurs could reduce the gap to the league leaders to eight points over the weekend.

It has been a strange season for Spurs after their early form was derailed slightly through a mass of injury issues.

Despite this, they could find themselves just eight points off the top by the end of this weekend with the top three still to play.

One of the players who finds himself well in the mix for the Premier League title is the former Spurs man Kyle Walker.

Spurs sold Walker to Pep Guardiola’s side back in 2017 for what was a world-record fee of £53m for a defender.

Speaking to the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Werner has claimed the 33-year-old has been the most difficult player to come up against. He said: “Kyle Walker because he’s that fast and strong. A lot of fun to play against, but very difficult.” 

Tottenham’s options at right-back

Perhaps for the first time since selling Walker back in 2017, Spurs finally seem to have a solid option at right-back.

Pedro Porro was brought in last January from Sporting CP for Antonio Conte’s wing-back system.

The Italian quickly moved on from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and left Porro with a new manager’s system to adapt to.

What Walker has gone on to achieve in the game cannot be understated as he has now won everything possible in English club football.

However, Spurs have one exciting player in Porro for years to come.

During Walker’s time at Manchester City, he has been able to provide a return of six goals and 21 assists over 291 appearances.

Since signing for Spurs, Porro has returned four goals and 11 assists in just 43 appearances.

Impressively, eight of those assists have come this season in the Premier League under Postecoglou.

There’s no doubt Walker is one of the best right-backs the Premier League has seen, but Werner will surely endure his own struggles in training against Tottenham’s Spaniard.
