VAR officials are reinstated for this weekend’s Premier League matches after a calamity in Spurs fixture.

Flashback to September, as Ange Postecoglou‘s side take on Liverpool in a highly anticipated fixture – which ended in an uproar of controversy.

Liverpool’s Luis Diaz saw a goal wrongly ruled out for offside, with the officials failing to overrule the on-field decision – despite knowing full well the mistake they’d made. PGMOL later called this a ‘significant human error‘.

This led to the referees in question being temporarily left out of upcoming fixtures, until now. They make a return this weekend.

Spurs vs Liverpool referees to return to action this weekend

As reported by The Athletic, the officials at the centre of the debacle have been selected to take part in this weekend’s fixtures.

VAR official on the day Darren England and his assistant Dan Cook will both be in action once again.

England faces a battle of the B’s as he is a fourth official for this weekend’s encounter between Brentford and Burnley on Saturday.

Cook will be an assistant to referee Michael Oliver for Manchester United’s trip to Sheffield United on Saturday evening.

Is this fair?

This will cause a lot of upset, particularly with Liverpool fans who felt very hard done by on that day in September.

The argument would be if these referees are deemed suited to their job requirements and whether the punishment was sufficient. They could have easily been relieved of their duties indefinitely.

Second chances should be issued in our opinion, but they best prepare themselves for a barrage of scrutiny if any dubious decisions arise once again.
