💷 If sell, how much is the Tottenham midfielder worth?
Uruguay just about find themselves in the top two of Group H; however, their final group game is against Spain.
Following the shock draw in Miami, the local media in Uruguay were not best pleased with how the midfielder fared against Cape Verde.
Uruguay media left very unhappy with Rodrigo Bentancur
The Uruguayan media were far from impressed by Rodrigo Bentancur’s performance in their 2-2 draw with Cape Verde.
Cape Verde have been one of the surprise packages of the tournament, holding both Uruguay and Spain to draws.
But there is still real anger amongst the local media in Uruguay, and the Tottenham midfielder is one of the players being criticised.
- Montevideo were very unhappy with the midfielder and wrote: “He’s one of the players who still hasn’t found his best individual form, and the team’s performance suffers as a result. He received an early yellow card, which also affected him. A very poor performance for a player of his calibre, and he still isn’t the necessary engine from midfield.”
- He was also slammed by La Diaria, who wrote: “He wasn’t very effective and struggled when he played as a defensive midfielder. He tried to push the team forward and made a couple of crucial tackles to prevent a complete disaster. He committed too many fouls.”
- El Observador were slightly more generous, rating him a 6/10: “He failed to take control of the team and committed the foul that led to the goal, leaving himself exposed under poor pressure from Ugarte and Valverde.”
Bentancur managed to win eight duels, eight recoveries and four interceptions, but going forward, he struggled to make much happen.
He also committed three fouls during the match and was eventually booked in what was a shocking performance from Uruguay’s midfield.
Bentancur was much better against Saudi Arabia in the first game, but against Cape Verde, it was a very poor showing from the Spurs star.
