Tottenham will be looking to improve this season under Roberto De Zerbi, and the recruitment will be key.

Marcos Senesi has landed from Bournemouth, and Andy Robertson has bolstered the ranks from Liverpool already this summer.

De Zerbi wants to raid Brighton to sign Jan Paul van Hecke this summer and it does look as though tried and tested Premier League players will be the order of the day.

Now, with Tottenham looking to enjoy a rebuild, news of another player potentially being on the club’s shortlist has come to light.

Tottenham make enquiry for Mateus Fernandes

If it wasn’t bad enough that Tottenham were in the market for Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville this summer, Spurs have now made it a hat-trick of Hammers players in their sights.

Bowen and Summerville might be easier signings to make, but Fernandes is now the subject of an enquiry from Tottenham, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist told The Last Word on Spurs that the club would like information on Fernandes, despite interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid.

He said: “Tottenham made an enquiry for Mateus Fernandes, even though the direction of travel there is Manchester United or PSG. Real Madrid could even enter that race, but he was another player that they looked at.

“It’s funny because Tottenham and West Ham don’t do that much business ever. And yet we might get a flurry now because of reports of which I made one of them that Crysencio Summerville and Tottenham were a legitimate link even though West Ham tried to deny it at the time.”

Fernandes would be dream Tottenham signing

Tottenham are in desperate need of a player with a bit of flair in midfield, and Fernandes would definitely tick that box.

Sadly, the Portuguese star is going to cost around £85 million this summer, and perhaps Tottenham will find it hard to fork out that much for one player in this window.

Fernandes was impressive during 2025/26 despite West Ham’s relegation and there appears to be no way at all that he remains at the London Stadium this summer.

Unfortunately, with the likes of United, Real Madrid and PSG monitoring him it also seems that the chances of him rocking up as part of De Zerbi’s squad look pretty slim too.
