One of Tottenham Hotspur’s key men revealed why he got in trouble with his mother for what he did against Brentford.

Spurs secured just their second win of the season as they eased past Brentford on Saturday afternoon winning 3-1.

The Lilwhites had to come from behind as Bryan Mbeuno gave the visitors the lead after just 26 seconds. However, Tottenham produced an emphatic response and for the remainder of the game, it was one-way traffic towards Brentford’s goal.

Ange Postecoglou’s side had their best performance of the season against the Bees as goals from Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson and James Maddison secured the three points.

James Maddison gets in trouble with his mother for celebration

James Maddison has revealed that he got in trouble with his mother for taking his top off against Brentford and getting booked.

The midfielder jokingly explained how his mum had him in her FPL team and she lost an extra point for him being booked as a result of his celebration.

Maddison told SpursOfficial: “I don’t know why I took my top off. My mum just texted me actually and said, ‘Keep your top on next time, I’ve got you in my fantasy and I got minus one for the yellow card!”

The 27-year-old scored his first goal of the season with a sumptuous chip over Mark Flekken for Spurs’ third goal and to seal the win.

Maddison produces his best display of the season vs Brentford

Maddison was playing in a deeper left-sided role against Brentford and he looked to thrive with the tactical tweak by Postecoglou.

The Aussie coach had Destiny Uodgie operate in a wider role which in turn gave the midfielder more room to operate and he looked more effective.

The England international ended up running the show for Spurs and the fans will be hoping he can now kick on following his impressive display.
