One of Tottenham Hotspur’s key players has just suffered an injury scare whilst away with his national team and has been forced to return to North London early.

Ange Postecoglou’s squad has already been hit by injuries this season with Heung-min Son having been out for a while with a hamstring issue, whilst Micky van de Ven, Wilson Odobert and Richarlison are all currently out.

The last thing Tottenham needs is another injury as they face a very busy run of games starting with Manchester City on November 23. Spurs are due to play nine matches in 29 days starting against the champions next weekend.

Cristian Romero returns to Tottenham with a foot injury

Cristian Romero has been forced to withdraw from the Argentine national team camp early and is returning to Europe already, according to Gaston Edul.

The Tottenham defender was forced off at half-time against Paraguay after experiencing pain in his foot – an injury he suffered against Aston Villa.

Romero was due to undergo scans on his foot and now it is seemingly enough of a concern for him to leave Argentina to head back to Hotspur Way.

The 26-year-old played through the issue in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at home to Ipswich Town and it was clear that he was not fully fit to play.

How bad are Tottenham’s current injuries?

Tottenham currently have six players who are sidelined with either injuries or illness. Van de Ven is expected back soon after the international break.

Odobert has just undergone surgery on his hamstring and will be joined by Richarlison in spending at least the next month or so recovering.

Mikey Moore and Timo Werner are both expected to be fit to face Manchester City on 23 November with the former having missed Galatasaray and Ipswich with a virus.
