Tottenham playmaker James Maddison has continued to show his support for England after their clash with Serbia at Euro 2024.

The Spurs star has been in and out of the Three Lions squad since making his breakthrough into the team under Gareth Southgate.

However, much to Maddison’s disappointment, he missed out on the final England squad travelling to Germany for Euro 2024.

The attacking midfielder had impressed in his opening few months at Tottenham, but following an injury, he returned and struggled to hit that form for Ange Postecoglou.

It was something Maddison acknowledged in a statement after failing to make the cut, stating on social media: “Devastated doesn’t quite cut it.

“Trained well and worked hard all week but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make.

“I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26-man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that.

“I’ll be back, I have no doubt. Wishing the boys all the luck in the world out in Germany, unbelievable group and lads that I literally call some of my best friends. I genuinely hope football comes home.”

Despite missing out, Maddison has continued to show his support for England as they look to win Euro 2024.

James Maddison message to Jude Bellingham after England v Serbia Euro 2024

England kickstarted their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia in Group C, which was far from an easy side to dismantle.

Southgate’s side managed to do that early on though as a floated cross from Bukayo Saka found the onrushing Jude Bellingham, who powered a header into the back of the net.

The Three Lions continued to threaten as former Tottenham star Harry Kane saw his headed effort saved onto the crossbar.

While the match then drew into a lull, England saw out the match to record an opening game victory and move one step closer to the knockout rounds of the tournament.

Celebrating the victory on his Instagram story, Maddison posted a picture of Bellingham with the caption: “Jude Bellinghim @judebellingham. Get in boys @england.”

Maddison, along with the rest of the nation, will certainly be hoping that the Real Madrid sensation can continue that form for the whole tournament.

James Maddison’s England future

Beyond the tournament this summer, there will be questions over whether Maddison can still fight for a place in the England squad moving forward.

The 27-year-old is competing with the likes of Bellingham, Phil Foden, Eberechi Eze and Cole Palmer for that attacking midfield role.

While it’s a tough ask to usurp some of those names, Maddison has proven he is more than capable of being in the Three Lions camp.

His start to life at Spurs had him in the conversation for one of the signings of last summer, but his form after caused concerns.

If Maddison wants a place back in that England side, it’s clear that his form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has to improve and that’s something that can only benefit every party if he does so.
