Andy Robertson seriously struggled during Scotland’s defeat to Brazil at the World Cup, with the Tottenham Hotspur defender being hooked at half-time.
The Scots now face a nervous wait to see whether they will make it to the Round of 32 at the World Cup via a third-place spot.
👀 I bet you CAN’T name a better midfield pairing in the Premier League than Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes…
🤑 Tottenham want to sign BOTH players!
Brazil put them to the sword on Tuesday, with Vinicius Jr proving the gulf in class between the two sets of players in Miami.
For Robertson, it was a particularly tough evening, as the Tottenham star struggled against Rayan and showed why he is a questionable addition.
Following the 3-0 defeat, the local media in Scotland have been reviewing the performance and were not best pleased by Spurs’ new signing.
Scottish media slam Andy Robertson vs Brazil
The Scottish media have been left very unhappy with the performance of Tottenham’s Andy Robertson against Brazil.
The new Spurs signing struggled against the five-time world champions, who embarrassed Scotland on the world stage.
After the game, Scottish media questioned their captain’s performance at the Hard Rock Stadium, on what was a tough evening for the team.
- The Scotsman rated him 4/10 and wrote: “The Scotland captain was one of the better defenders up against a lively Rayan. Not able to get forward. Came off at the break for Tierney.”
- Daily Record were brutal and rated him 3/10: “Skipper lasted just 45 minutes of his 97th cap, having started with the job of keeping tabs on Bournemouth ace Rayan and pushing him back into his own territory as much as possible. Punished for a decision to play a pass in his own box as Vinicius Jr scored his second and totally outfoxed by Rayan when Gunn made a great save. Did not appear for the second period.”
- TalkSPORT gave him 4/10: “The captain is typically one of Scotland’s more reliable players, but this was an exception for Andy Robertson. His failure to clear the ball led to Brazil’s second goal in first-half added time, while he was ineffective going forward.”
The 32-year-old was forced off at half-time, although it seems that the former Liverpool star has picked up a minor knock.
🤔 KEEP, LOAN or SELL: What should happen to Lucas Bergvall at Spurs next season?
💷 If sell, how much is the Tottenham midfielder worth?
During the first 45 minutes, Robertson managed just two defensive contributions, lost possession seven times and failed to complete a single cross from his three attempts.
Andy Robertson is a very questionable Tottenham signing
Ultimately, there is a reason why Liverpool were open to letting Robertson leave, and it just proves that the defender was a questionable Tottenham signing.
The 32-year-old struggled to get ahead of a struggling Milos Kerkez at Liverpool last term, so how much he still has to give in the Premier League is uncertain.
As the local media point out, Rayan gave him a torrid time down Brazil’s right-hand side, and this will really worry Roberto De Zerbi.
Rayan was a good litmus test for the defender, and he struggled to stop the Bournemouth attacker at the World Cup.
Although the hope will be that Robertson adds some much-needed experience and leadership to the dressing room at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, rather than being a starting left-back.
