Tottenham Hotspur have a player who is currently out on loan, but remains with high targets as he set his sights as far as winning the Ballon D’Or.

Versatile defender Japhet Tanganga is currently away from Hotspur Way on a short-term loan basis with Championship side Millwall.

Despite playing in the second tier of English football, the 24-year-old has spoken about his desire to win both individual and collective silverware.

Tanganga eyes Ballon d’Or

It has been a strange old season for the Englishman who has now spent time out on loan at two separate clubs following his previous stint in the Bundesliga with Augsburg.

Regardless, now playing at The Den, Tanganga has discussed his lofty ambitions with Sky Sports and has mentioned the goal to even get his hands on the prestigious Ballon d’Or award:

“Individual trophies, team trophies like winning the Premier League, winning the Champions League, World Cup, all of these things, Ballon d’Or even. You aim for those things, of course. You know, it starts off as a dream and then you’ve got to do the things to try and reach that dream.”

Historically, it is an award which has been dominated by attacking players, so it would take some performance over the course of the season to see Tanganga in the running for the Ballon d’Or.

And even a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s side currently feels a long way off, but there is no harm in being optimistic.

Postecoglou not taking to Tanganga

Having spent fairly heavily on defensive additions, Ange Postecoglou’s stance on Tanganga seems pretty clear.

Perhaps a solid stint in Germany with Augsburg could’ve provided him with a crumb of optimism over a potential return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but that wasn’t the case.

Instead, the 24-year-old spent half the season in the Bundesliga where he was only able to make the matchday squad on just one occasion.

Now, it feels like a long road ahead of the Englishman if he is to even turn Postecoglou’s head, never mind competing for awards like the Ballon d’Or and the World Cup.
