Tottenham Hotspur don’t join the FA Cup until January but one former Spurs cult hero has now joined a non-league club’s cup dream.
Premier League clubs are barely even thinking about the FA Cup right now.
Clubs from England’s top two divisions don’t join the FA Cup until the third round, which kicks off in January.
As Tottenham Hotspur were beating Aston Villa 4-1 on Sunday, the first round of the FA Cup was taking shape.
Harborough Town enjoyed a big win, beating Tonbridge Angels on Saturday afternoon to book their place in the second round.
The non-league side had never even qualified for the first round before this season but now find themselves in round two.

Tottenham Hotspur cult hero joins non-league club for FA Cup journey
Harborough’s reward is a trip to League One side Reading, presenting the opportunity for a major giantkilling.
Many neutrals would love to see Harborough qualify for the third round and have the chance to face a Premier League club.
Harborough have now attempted to strengthen their case by signing a Tottenham cult hero ahead of facing Reading later this month.
Brazilian midfielder Sandro has been presented as a Harborough player in a quite remarkable move.
Spurs signed Sandro from Internacional and whilst he wasn’t a superstar, many Tottenham fans took him to their hearts.
Sandro bagged three goals in 106 games for Tottenham before moving on to Queens Park Rangers in 2014.
After spells with West Bromwich Albion, Antalyaspor, Benevento, Genoa, Udinese, Goias and B-SAD, Sandro retired in 2023.
Well, Sandro is now back in the game once again at the age of 35 as Harborough look to progress their FA Cup dream.
Harborough boss reacts to Sandro deal
Harborough may be a lowly non-league club but they may have gained a few Tottenham fans with the deal for Sandro.
Manager Mitch Austin has told Harborough’s official website that he feels Sandro is a simply ‘unbelievable’ signing.
Austin noted that he and Sandro have been speaking in recent weeks and the former Spurs man has been desperate to join.
The deal is now done and Austin admitted being totally ‘gobsmacked’ that Sandro has arrived to join the Harborough journey.
“What an unbelievable signing for the club, I really cannot express how I am feeling,” said Austin. “I had a chance conversation with Sandro a couple of weeks ago and we got talking about football, told him about Harborough Town FC and the journey we are on and he has been messaging me ever since to sign on, totally unbelievable and gobsmacked is how I would describe this signing.
“These sort of signings don’t happen every day but when you get a chance to sign an ex-professional footballer who has played at the highest level in the Premier League and Internationally with Brazil, you just cannot turn it down,” he added.
Sandro has been backed as a future Spurs manager by Heurelho Gomes whilst Sandro claims that his dream is to manage Tottenham.
That is a lofty goal but Sandro will certainly have support from Spurs fans as he makes his return to the pitch in Leicestershire.
