Tottenham Hotspur started pre-season with a thumping victory having beaten Heart of Midlothian 5-1 at Tynecastle on Wednesday night.
Ange Postecoglou took his Tottenham Hotspur side up to Scotland, familiar surroundings for the Australian after his time as Celtic boss.
Brennan Johnson handed Tottenham a first-half lead before Lawrence Shankland levelled it up for Hearts.
Tottenham took full control from there with Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore putting Spurs 3-1 up in the second half.
Djed Spence popped up with number four before a Lewis Neilson own goal finished off the scoring.
Minutes in the legs were the most important thing but Postecoglou will be delighted to see his players come through with a hefty victory.
Ange Postecoglou on England speculation
Kick off at Tynecastle came just hours after a concerning rumour emerged about Tottenham boss Postecoglou.
The Telegraph reported that Postecoglou is a man of interest to The FA following Gareth Southgate’s exit as England boss.
It’s stated that The FA have been tracking Postecoglou ‘for years’ now and that is down to technical director John McDermott.
McDermott – who previously coached at Tottenham – has allegedly been following Postecoglou since his days in Australia and Japan.
McDermott is a key man in England’s managerial search and is compiling a list of potential appointments.
Postecoglou is one target but you can be sure that Tottenham will put up a major fight to keep him.
The Spurs boss was unsurprising asked about those rumours and gave a typically relaxed response.
Speaking to Football London, Postecoglou noted that he was sleeping in the afternoon and wasn’t even aware of the rumours.
Postecoglou admitted that he wants to bring success to Tottenham and feels that his work isn’t close to being done.
The Australian added that you never know where you could be in five years, but thinks that he will just be one of 100 managers linked with the England job.
“Mate I was having a nap this afternoon so I’ve got no idea. I’m Tottenham manager and I’m determined to bring success to this club, as I have at every other club I’ve been at. That’s where my focus is totally,” said Postecoglou.
“We haven’t achieved anything yet. So until we achieving something my work is not done. I reckon by the end of it there will be 100 of them. I’m in the top 100, thank you. That’s decent.”
“Five years ago I was in Japan and now I’m in the Premier League. Who knows where I will be in five years. I could be back in Japan. I could be on the beach somewhere, hopefully. It’s not something that enters my headspace. I’m Tottenham manager and I’m determined to bring success to this club. Nothing else is on my radar except for that,” he added.
Postecoglou has experienced international management before having coached Australia at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Swapping the Premier League for a return to the international scene just doesn’t seem likely and Tottenham surely won’t have much to worry about right now.
