Tottenham‘s course for a top-four finish this season was knocked slightly as they fell to defeat against Newcastle. Four goals to the hosts at St. James’ Park dealt a devastating blow to Spurs in a match to forget.
Ange Postecoglou wasn’t helped by their nearest league rivals Aston Villa beating their local rivals Arsenal just one day later. It means the Lilywhites still have plenty to do to try and guarantee a Champions League place for next season.

With some huge games ahead, Tottenham will need to string together some victories to give themselves the best chance of usurping Villa. So with that said, here’s a look at the final six Tottenham fixtures in the race for the top four.

There’s a slight break for Tottenham before they’re back in action with a clash against north London rivals Arsenal. The Gunners have impressed this season but showed signs of frailty in their defeat to Aston Villa last time out.

Man City (H) – May 14
The final home game of the season will be against champions Manchester City, who have aims of landing a fourth title in a row. The final game of the season is a trip to Sheffield United, a team that are staring relegation in the face. The Blades will be looking to end their season on a high note, while Spurs continue to chase down a potential top-four finish.

Our verdict
It’ll be a tough battle to secure a top-four place, but the odds will almost definitely favour Aston Villa. The Villains have points on the board and have already played Arsenal and Manchester City – teams Tottenham still await.
That said, any slip-up could prove costly and may allow Spurs to pounce as they throw everything at a strong finish to the season.
