One of Tottenham Hotspur’s key players had a terrible off day against Ipswich Town as the team slipped to a 2-1 defeat against the Premier League’s new boys.

Spurs suffered a shock defeat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as they failed to take the chance to move third and will instead head into the international break sat tenth.

First-half goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap proved decisive for the visitors who held on for their first win in the Premier League since 2002.

Now, one of Spurs’ frontmen has been slammed by supporters for his woeful attacking output against Kieran McKenna’s team.

Brennan Johnson struggles vs Ipswich Town

Brennan Johnson certainly had an afternoon to forget as the forward failed to register a single attacking output against Ipswich.

The Welshman managed just three shots in total all of which were off-target, he accrued a pass completion percentage of just 68 from 22 passes and failed to complete a single cross. Johnson’s overall stats from the defeat do not make for good reading.

There’s no doubt Johnson’s form has been solid this season, especially after the defeat to Arsenal, however, the winger needs to find a more consistent level of performances.

Tottenham were in desperate need of one of their key men to step up against Ipswich and Johnson should have been one of those players. An afternoon to forget for him and Spurs.

How the media rated Brennan Johnson’s performance vs Ipswich

Johnson’s performance against Ipswich earned some shocking reviews from the media with most outlets blaming him for the visitor’s opener and squandering a big chance to give Spurs the lead early on.

Football.London gave him a 4/10, writing: “Touched a good chance just wide of the post from an early Son curling ball into the box. Really should have challenged for the ball in the box that handed Szmodics all the time in the world to score on the half hour. Kept pushing forward but without much joy before coming off with 10 minutes to go.”

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard handed him a 3/10: “Inexplicably failed to challenge Szmodics for the opening goal and was anonymous in the final third, aside from an early effort which he steered wide of the near post.

VAVEL.com also gave him 3/10: “Johnson should have put his team in front inside the opening five minutes after Heung-min Son had curled a sumptuous cross into the path of the Welshman.

“The 23-year-old cut a frustrated figure for his time on the field as the back-five of Ipswich were resolute to prevent him from having an impact and he was substituted late on.”
