Tottenham Hotspur currently lead the way for the most points gained in stoppage time in the Premier League this term.

Brennan Johnson’s last-minute winner against Brighton & Hove Albion handed Ange Postecoglou’s side all three points on Saturday.

Much had been made of Tottenham’s habit of conceding late after they dropped points at Goodison Park last weekend.

According to Opta, Spurs have conceded eight goals in stoppage time this term – the most in the league.

Yet, we also lead the way when it comes to points won in the latter stages of games.

Tottenham have won most stoppage-time points in the Premier League

After Johnson’s late winner against Brighton, Spurs have now won eight points after the 90th minute of games.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, which has produced a list of the best teams in the league in added time.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both earned five points after the 90th minute, while Arsenal and Aston Villa have picked up four in stoppage time this term.

Jarrad Branthwaite’s late goal at Goodison Park led to suggestions that Spurs currently have a problem with game management.

While there may be some truth to this, we believe it rests more on the way Postecoglou sets his Spurs side up.

Regardless of the scoreline or stage of the game, Postecoglou wants his side to continue to threaten in the final third.

As we’ve seen, that can lead to us conceding late goals, with the games at Wolves and Everton springing to mind.

But we’ve also seen the rewards of our attacking approach as we’ve bagged late winners against Sheffield United, Liverpool and Brighton this term.

One thing is for sure, Postecoglou won’t be in a hurry to shore things up at the back and change our approach in the latter stages of games. And Saturday’s game was yet another example of the benefits of sticking with the Aussie’s attacking philosophy.
