Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and it looks like he could leave the club in the January transfer window.

Tottenham have a midfield which looks a lot different this season, with Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma accompanying James Maddison.

Ange Postecoglou has favoured these three over Hojbjerg, who started 35 games in the Premier League last season. This season, he has played seven times in the division but he is yet to start.

Now, it looks like he could leave the club in January, and it sounds like the Danish international would favour a move in the next transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano on Pierre-Emilie Hojbjerg’s Tottenham future

With the player now seen as cover for the first-choice midfielders and an international tournament next summer, Hojbjerg cannot afford to be sitting on the bench.

Speaking on the Fabrizio Romano YouTube channel about Hojbjerg, Romano said: “Hojbjerg remains open to a January move. He’s keen on a potential transfer. Let’s see if it’s going to be January or the summer window because we know some Tottenham midfielders will go to the Africa Cup and this is why it could be complicated to give the green light to the exit of Hojbjerg.

“But the player is open [to move] in January or the summer to leave Tottenham and try a new experience. It’s true that Juventus are keeping tabs on the situation but there are also other clubs.”

It is no shock to hear this update from Romano and despite the wishes of the Spurs player it looks like a transfer may have to wait until the summer.

With Tottenham at the top of the Premier League and still undefeated, it will be hard for the 28-year-old to get back into the starting lineup.

On his day, Hojbjerg can be ‘brilliant‘ and if he can’t leave in the January transfer window then he will have the perfect chance to fight for a spot in the starting XI when the African Cup of Nations begins.
