Tim Sherwood says Tottenham have sold the player who would’ve won them the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur’s former manager Tim Sherwood has claimed if Ange Postecoglou still had Harry Kane they would win the league.

It has now been a number of months since Spurs offloaded their all-time record goalscorer and things are going incredibly well without him.

For Harry Kane, on the other hand, things are not going so positively for the England captain in Germany with the past week proving incredibly testing.

Has Harry Kane won a trophy yet

The move to Bayern Munich in the summer was to see the striker finally end his trophy drought with one of the most decorated clubs in world football.

However, that has not exactly panned out with Bayern already fumbling the Super Cup and DFB-Pokal.

The Bundesliga title – which they’ve held for 11 years – is also at risk with Bayer Leverkusen pulling clear at the top.

And now, even their Champions League hopes look to be fading after a 1-0 defeat in the first-leg of their tie against Lazio.

Yet, speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Sherwood has said if Kane was playing in this Ange Postecoglou side, Spurs would be winning the league: “They’ve got some firepower. Considering they lost Harry Kane in the summer. They’re a Harry Kane from winning the league – I’ve said it here before – they’re a Harry Kane away from winning the league. Can you imagine Harry Kane in that side.”

Richarlison filling the Kane gap

Although it has taken the Brazilian time to find his feet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it seems the recent surgery has paid off.

Richarlison has been able to find the back of the net 10 times in the Premier League this season with nine of those coming in the last nine games.

With this in mind, you do have to think about how many Kane might have been able to score under Postecoglou.

Whilst playing under the likes of Antonio Conte, Kane was able to shine despite playing defensive football.

So perhaps Sherwood may have a point in suggesting we could at least be pushing for the top spot if we had Kane providing a constant stream of goals over the course of the term.

But, having said that, Kane’s big transfer fee meant we were able to spend over the last two windows and sign the likes of Micky van de Ven and James Maddison.

Would this have been possible without the sale of the England captain? Potentially not.
