Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has admitted he thought the Spurs players looked slightly scared against Manchester City last month.
Our FA Cup journey came to an end at the fourth round when Pep Guardiola’s side came to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and recorded their first-ever win at the new ground.
And on the back of the defeat, Sherwood has suggested Ange Postecoglou’s men looked slightly timid about City’s capabilities.

Tottenham scared against City
Our home record against Guardiola’s side has been well covered over the years with the game last month being the first time they had even scored a goal at the new stadium.
However, they did prevail and our hopes of a trophy were reduced to the Premier League title.
It was a game where we did not offer City too many problems with just one shot on target registered by Postecoglou’s men.
Although there couldn’t be any complaints about the scoreline, it seems as if Sherwood did question the efforts when speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: “I think it was a little bit subconsciously scared. You know, it’s like a boxer going into the ring and you know someone can knock you out. And if you drop your gloves you’re going to get knocked out and I think subconsciously, not that the manager would be breeding it into them, but I think as players you think ‘should I go or have I got to worry about this one,” he said.

Tottenham’s trophy drought goes on
The FA Cup felt like a huge opportunity to see Postecoglou end our trophy drought, but it was another opportunity missed.
Of course, some may argue there is little disappointment in losing to the reigning Premier League and European champions.
But there was definitely some disappointment in the manner of the defeat.
That was not a performance which we have become accustomed to seeing from Postecoglou’s Spurs since he arrived in the summer.
It felt timid and cautious, which is the opposite to what we’ve become used to under the Australian.
We now have the likes of Heung-min Son and James Maddison finally back playing together, so front foot football should be back on the menu.
There was always going to be bumps in the road in this Postecoglou project, let’s just hope he has learned from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup exits as they were both just as disappointing.
