Spain enjoyed another dominant win in their World Cup qualifying campaign on Monday night, however national media believe Tottenham’s Pedro Porro actually struggled a bit.

The Spurs man has established himself as the first choice right-back for his country, featuring in a defence that also contains Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Real Madrid’s Dean Huijsen.

Porro has made an excellent start to the season in North London, playing nearly every minute so far since Thomas Frank took over the club.

He is yet to pick up a goal contribution in the Premier League during this campaign, but did provide an assist in the Super Cup defeat to PSG.

The right-back’s defensive game has shown vast improvement over the last 12 months, with him always carrying a threat going forwards alongside his set-piece threat.

However, Eldesmarque have stated that the defender actually struggled a bit in Spain’s 6-0 win over Turkey.

Handing the Spurs man a 5/10, they said: “One of the most discreet. He suffered a little in defense in the first part and did not show much in attack.”

There was a more positive review from Sport, who gave him a 6/10, and acknowledged that he actually had a very comfortable game up against very little threat.

They said: “He played it easy, without complicating things, aware that he had Lamine in front of him, who was supposed to carry the weight on the right wing. Knowing how to be where you need to be is always a virtue. Good.”

Porro preparing for Champions League return

Tottenham’s fixture list takes a sharp turn when they come back to club duty at the end of the week, with their Champions League return against Villarreal to come.

Porro has played just 37 minutes in the competition for Spurs so far, and will be looking to prove his worth as one of the top players in his position in European football.

They have a rematch against PSG to look forward to in the group stages, as well as a tie against Borussia Dortmund.

After an underwhelming domestic season was saved by their exploits in Europe last season, Frank will be hoping to blend the two together in 2025/26.
