Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has discussed Tottenham’s title chances in the Premier League.

It comes as Spurs continue to be thrown into the title discussion by the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Kevin De Bruyne. Their hopes of at least achieving Champions League qualification were given a major boost with a win over Brighton.

Pascal Gross’s opener for the Seagulls was cancelled out by Pape Matar Sarr, before yet more late drama descended on Tottenham. In the dying embers of the match, Heung-Min Son managed to pick out Brennan Johnson at the back post with a driven cross.

The Welsh international fired his effort into the back of the net, sending the fans into joyous scenes. The victory leaves the Lilywhites sitting in the top four, seven points behind league leaders Liverpool at this stage of the season.

While it may seem improbable, it isn’t impossible that a few results could see Tottenham firmly in the title race picture.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s Tottenham title claim

Despite title talk, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Tottenham won’t ever win the Premier League, due to the strength of the teams around them. Sky Sports presenter and Spurs fan Matt Chapman asked: “Will Spurs ever win the Premier League?”

“No,” Ferguson responded while laughing. Chapman responds with: “What’s funny about that? You’ve just broken my heart.”

Ferguson continues in more detail: “[19]61 was the last time they won it [the first division]. Well, that’s a long time. But the proposition today with Liverpool and Man City being so powerful in the Premier League, even for United…”

Chapman hit back by replying: “I think Spurs are more likely to win it than United these days.” With Ferguson bluntly saying: “No chance.”

When did Tottenham last win the league?

Tottenham’s last league title came in the 1960/61 season of the Football League First Division. Spurs won 31 of their 42 games that campaign, with four draws and seven defeats enough to beat Sheffield Wednesday to the title by eight points.

When it comes to the modern era of top flight football, Tottenham are yet to win the Premier League, since it came into existence in 1992. They will be hoping that can change as soon as possible, with a project that may take them there.
