Rio Ferdinand has slammed Cristian Romero’s pre-match message on Tottenham Hotspur’s social media accounts ahead of the defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Spurs released a message from the club captain hyping up the fans ahead of the match with the message: ‘We’ll fight for everything. All together, always!’
😠 EMBARRASSING or NOT: Should Spurs have released such a message from Cuti Romero ahead of the Forest game?
However, Spurs lost the must-win clash against their relegation rivals, and Romero’s involvement in the second goal has been scrutinised.
Ferdinand thinks that Romero and the North London club got it all wrong ahead of the match and should have done the talking on the pitch.
Rio Ferdinand slams Cristian Romero’s pre-match message before Nottingham Forest defeat
Rio Ferdinand has slammed Cristian Romero’s pre-match message before Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The former Premier League defender thinks the team should have just focused on getting the job done on the pitch rather than speaking on social media.
Ahead of the match, Spurs created a superb atmosphere and welcome for the players; however, they were bitterly let down.
Speaking about the post on social media, Ferdinand told Rio Presents: “Whoever was in any creative room at Spurs going, ‘This is a good idea’, needs to be really called out and slapped with a wet fish in their face in public because it’s a disgraceful bit of content that I’ve seen put out, and we’re in a content world.
🤔 You decide: Should Tottenham STRIP or KEEP Cristian Romero as the captain?
“I understand it. But you’re on your knees. Your club is doing all they can to go down at the moment, and you think that someone thought it was a great idea to go, ‘Let’s get the captain to do a really close-up, really slow visuals look like he cares and give a speech that’s going to be a rallying call to the fanbase’.
“The fans don’t want to hear that. They just want to see you go out, roll your sleeves up and get some results. Work hard, right?”
The Lilywhites’ supporters are likely to agree that it was the wrong message from the club, who have constantly let them down all season.
