Micky van de Ven had a nightmare performance for Tottenham at Newcastle today and Peter Crouch and Rio Ferdinand have had their say on what he should do next.

Van de Ven was at fault for the opening three goals for Newcastle before a free header from Fabian Schar was planted beyond Vicario in the Spurs net to make it 4-0.

For the Dutchman, it was a very out of character performance really.

Van de Ven had been lauded by the likes of Ferdinand and Crouch beforehand but against Newcastle, he simply came unstuck in the worst way possible.

With no game now until Spurs take on Arsenal in two weeks’ time, Van de Ven has some time on his hands and plenty of time to stew on things.

And speaking about the break for Van de Ven and Spurs, Crouch and Ferdinand admitted it was one of the worst things that could happen.

TNT pundits agree on Micky van de Ven break

Speaking on TNT Sports after the game and bringing up the issue of having no game for two weeks, Peter Crouch suggested that the Dutchman would want to play ASAP to get it out of system.

Ferdinand, meanwhile, had his own suggestion on what Van de Ven needed to do when he got home.

“The worst thing now for Van de Ven is there’s no game for what is it, nearly two weeks? That’s the last thing you want after a bad game. He’d probably play tomorrow if he could but now he’s going to have to wait around and it’s the worst thing to happen,” Crouch said.

Rio Ferdinand echoed the comments of Crouch, adding that if he was Van de Ven, he’d go home, order some food and simply block things out by getting on the PlayStation or similar.

Regardless, Van de Ven will need to get himself right ahead of facing Arsenal.

The Gunners will show no mercy and just like Newcastle did today, will punish Spurs if they are defensively as poor as they were today.
