Tottenham Hotspur are a currently a work in progress under Ange Postecoglou but the team is clearly heading in the right direction.

Such a rebuilding job will never be completely smooth sailing but, for the most part, you can see what the Spurs boss is trying to do.

Tottenham can beat anyone on their day and have got some impressive results this season.

For instance, they were unplayable in the 3-0 win at Manchester United and also knocked Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup.

Crucially, Spurs are putting together a young team that looks set to develop and grow as a collective.

On Friday, Postecoglou sung the praises of one of his young players in wake of a “great” 10 months at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou hails Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin

The player in question is Radu Dragusin, who has been going from strength to strength since joining Spurs from Genoa in January 2024.

Dragusin has made 15 competitive appearances for Tottenham to date, including six this season.

And while the 22-year-old has needed to find his feet at times, he was impressive in the midweek win over Pep Guardiola’s side.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Aston Villa, Postecoglou praised Dragusin for how hard he’s working to improve and how he’s “embracing the way we play”.

He told football.london: “Radu’s been with us 10 months now and I think he’s been great.

“We signed him because we saw some really strong attributes in him in terms of his defending capabilities, his mindset and again a really unique journey that he had to fight hard to get where he wants to. So, he had all those things I look for.

“He is still young and he is working hard every day on his game and all aspects of his game.

“Defenders you know they tend to get better with age with experience, the good ones, and with him, guys like Micky and Destiny, the reason we signed them at the age they did is we really believe in years to come they’ll get stronger and he is doing that.

“Every time he is out there I think I can see improvements. He is really embracing the way we play.

“It is very different to where he came from, playing so aggressively with our line and defending one-on-one but he’s embracing that and enjoying that.

“I thought he was great the other night. Not just in his football but in terms of his presence and demeanour, he took some leadership there.

“Obviously, we lost two of our back four during the game with Micky going down and then Cuti out.

“He had Archie next to him who is 18 and I thought he really stood up in that time just to make sure with those disruptions, we maintained our organisation and I thought he was really good.”

How Dragusin was rated in Tottenham win over Man City

Football.london gave Dragusin an 8 out of 10 and wrote: “Also had a hand in the opener as Spurs worked the ball at the back before moving it forward.

“Made some key headers and defensive contributions over the course of the game in what was an excellent showing.”

Likewise, the Evening Standard went with an 8 and wrote: “Not entirely comfortably playing out on his unfavoured left foot but defended robustly.

“The Romanian will be needed if, as seems likely, Micky van de Ven is set for a spell on the sidelines.”
