‘Quite unusual’… Alasdair Gold says Tottenham have brought back in man who departed in 2020

Tottenham Hotspur have hired Nathan Gardiner as their head of sports science after he left in 2020.

There were some huge changes behind the scenes at Hotspur Way over the summer and it is a constant evolution.

It has been an impressive start to life under Ange Postecoglou, but it seems Daniel Levy is keen to keep the development going.

Tottenham hire Nathan Gardiner

Speaking on his latest YouTube video, Alasdair Gold commented on the return of the 48-year-old to Hotspur Way.

After 15 years at Spurs, Gardiner departed the club in 2020 to join up with Scott Parker at Fulham as their first-team coach.

Although the appointment is still to be announced by the club, Gold has admitted he has seen the returning figure around Hotspur Way.

He said: “Nathan Gardiner, I saw Training Ground Guru reported that he’s back as head of sports science at Spurs.

“Which is interesting because I’ve seen him quite a bit in recent weeks and this season, walking around the corridors at Spurs or around the training ground. So presumably he’s has been around but it kind of wasn’t made official. Because he’d been there for a long time. He was there for 15 years.”

“He’s got this funny thing, which is quite unusual, Nathan Gardiner, as they write here at Training Ground Guru, is that he’s qualified as a sports scientist, physio but also a coach. He’s got a sports science degree from Loughborough University, a physiotherapy degree at King’s College and holds a UEFA A licence as well. What clever guy.”

Given he has potentially been back at Spurs for a while now, he will have certainly had his work cut out with the number of injuries the club have endured this term.

All change at Hotspur Way

Over the last 10 months or so, there have been some massive changes happening at Hotspur Way.

Following a dismal season under Antonio Conte, it was apparent the club were going to need to hit the reset button.

And that is exactly what Levy did by hiring a manager who was completely unproven in the Premier League.

To add some further obstacles into the mix, the sale of the club’s all-time record goalscorer, Harry Kane, was sanctioned just days before the start of the season.

Yet Spurs have come out the other end showing a lot of progression from where they were at last season.

Top four football could largely depend on how Spurs come out of the game against Aston Villa on the weekend.

But not many people would have even considered this new look Spurs to be within the conversation for a spot in the top four.
