Tottenham Hotspur will be eager to record a sixth win in a row in all competitions when they head to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
Spurs have turned a corner since their North London derby defeat and have recorded some great results in that time.
For instance, Tottenham ran out 3-0 winners at Manchester United last week, and they have also made it two wins out of two in the Europa League.
Ange Postecoglou’s charges will be up against a Brighton side that began the season brightly but have since suffered a downturn in form.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side won their first two games, and were unbeaten in their first five matches, but are now four games without a win.
The Spurs News looks at what some of the nation’s main prediction pundits have said about Tottenham’s chances against Brighton.
Chris Sutton
Chris Sutton, writing on BBC Sport, believes Spurs’ trip to the Amex Stadium will be an exciting, high-scoring affair, and predicted a 3-3 draw.
“I love watching Spurs and the same applies to Brighton at the moment,” wrote Sutton.
“This should be known as the high-line derby, with the way both teams set up. It will be a great game for the neutral and there should be plenty of chances at both ends.
“Brighton lost for the first time under new manager Fabian Hurzeler last week, so this is about how they respond. Can they cause Tottenham problems? Absolutely.
“For Tottenham, it is about showing consistency after they put in an outstanding performance to beat Manchester United.
“I am expecting goals, but I actually think Brighton will get something out of the game.
“I have always felt that Spurs will soon give someone one hell of a beating sooner or later, but they are going to have to wait until after the international break because it is not happening here.”
Coldplay’s Jonny Buckland
Though obviously not a pundit, Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland – a Tottenham fan – was a guest predictor on Sutton’s BBC Sport column.
Buckland backed Spurs to run out 3-2 winners against the Seagulls, admitting he made bandmate Will Champion change their prediction.
“Will said this would be 2-2 but I made him change it to 2-3, just because I felt so positive after the Brentford and United games,” said Buckland.
“Under Ange Postecoglou, I go into every game thinking we are going to try to win this, there is no pragmatism really.
“Whoever it is, however many men we have got on the pitch, we are going to go for it. It is always exciting to watch.”
Alan Shearer
Shearer predicted a score draw, admitting it’s a tough game to call, but like Sutton, he predicted an open, expansive encounter.
“Spurs were much better and played well against Man United, battered them in the first half, even when it was 11v11,” he wrote on Metro.
“Brighton have had a little stutter in terms of their result last weekend and a couple of draws before that, playing out from the back and getting caught with the high line.
“I can see plenty of goals in this one. You may see a game that’s congested within 20 yards with both teams wanting to play a high line, but I’d be willing to bet that one team will score a goal from trying to play that line, and one of them will get caught out.”
Paul Merson
Paul Merson, like the other two pundits, thinks the points will be shared on the south coast, opting for a 2-2 draw.
“Tottenham were outstanding the other day against Manchester United,” Merson wrote on Sportskeeda. “Tough game to pick this one.
“Brighton actually went after both Arsenal and Chelsea, even though they lost to the Blues last weekend.
“Without playing down Tottenham’s win at Old Trafford, I must admit that Manchester United are not Brighton. So you could even argue this is a tougher game.
“I won’t be surprised if Tottenham lose this game either. This also shows where Manchester United are as a club right now.
“If Tottenham get four points from Manchester United and Brighton, that’s not a bad start for them. This is a hard football match and I’m going for a draw.”
