Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted James Maddison’s delivery was a disappointment last week.

The north Londoners walked away from their game in N17 against Crystal Palace with all three points.

But they were certainly made to earn it having gone behind in the second half to an Eberechi Eze free-kick.

Maddison’s delivery disappointed

It has been a turbulent campaign for the 27-year-old James Maddison after joining Spurs in the summer.

The midfielder made a sensational start and was even awarded the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August.

However, the injury sustained during the defeat at home to Chelsea saw his season interrupted for a lengthy period.

Having now returned, Maddison is slowly returning to full fitness, but Ange Postecoglou admitted his delivery from set pieces disappointed Ryan Mason last week. He said: “Delivery is vital. Last week wasn’t great. Madders is usually good at them but I thought we had a lot and I know Mase [Ryan Mason] was pretty disappointed with that.”

James Maddison Tottenham stats

Maddison decided on joining Spurs in the summer after Leicester City suffered relegation down to the Championship.

Although his delivery on the weekend from dead ball situations may not have been up to scratch, he still provided an assist for Cristian Romero’s headed goal.

That made up just one of his eight assists in the Premier League this season, on top of the three goals he’s scored.

However, he has not found the back of the net since October when Spurs beat Fulham at home.

This weekend offers Spurs a huge opportunity to make a statement in the race for those Champions League places.

And what a time it would be for Maddison to return to his absolute best.

Tottenham will be without one of their main goal threats in Richarlison, so Postecoglou could really do with Maddison rediscovering his shooting boots at Villa Park.
