Player hailed by Jose Mourinho at Tottenham leaves Premier League club after 100 games

Jose Mourinho’s failed to bring silverware to Tottenham Hotspur and his time at the football club wasn’t overly successful.

The legendary boss left Tottenham with a win ratio of just over 50% but he did do some positive things for the club during his time in charge.

On arriving in North London he praised a number of the club’s youth players and it felt as though he would try to give them game time whilst he remained in charge.

Now, one player who Mourinho praised in the early stages of his time at Tottenham has departed his current club on a free transfer.

Dennis Cirkin leaves Sunderland

When Cirkin signed for Sunderland permanently after a successful loan spell, many Tottenham fans wondered whether it was the right call.

Clearly, given what Spurs have achieved since he left, it would appear that the decision to let him leave was a positive one.

Cirkin will go down as a bit of a legend at the Stadium of Light, however, with his form over the years, helping the club win promotion on two occasions.

The left-back made 126 appearances for Sunderland, proving integral as they won promotion from League One and the Championship.

He’s become a real favourite with the fan base and will now be looking to sign for a new club ahead of the new season.

Cirkin has been around for a while in England but after leaving Spurs in 2021 he’s become a man and developed into a very useful defender.

Cirkin is only 24 and it seems very likely that he’s going to be a very sought-after pick-up in the Championship this summer.

What Mourinho said about Dennis Cirkin

During one of Mourinho’s early press conference, Cirkin was namechecked for praise.

He said in one of his press conference: “I recently watched our youth team playing in the Champions League, and we have Dennis Cirkin.

“OK he’s 17 but he’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him in to train with us and to aid his development.”

Cirkin left without making a first-team appearance for Tottenham and after performing so well for Sunderland he will surely hope to get back to the Premier League at some point in his career.
