Tottenham Hotspur have been ‘wowed’ by Alejo Veliz in training.

That’s according to journalist Alasdair Gold, who has claimed the South American youngster has made a real impression since arriving from Rosario Central.

Veliz made his professional debut in Argentina in July 2021 before becoming a regular in Rosario’s team the following season. The 20-year-old went onto rack up an impressive eleven goals in 23 games last season, before earning himself a £13 million move to the Premier League.

Veliz made his Tottenham debut in the 2-1 win over Liverpool at the weekend, coming on as a substitute in the 90th minute.

The youngster has a way to go before he can establish himself under Ange Postecoglou, with the likes of Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, Gold has now claimed the coaching staff have been really impressed with Veliz and has suggested he could already be ready for English football.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Podcast, Gold said: “I think that’s a testament to Veliz because from what I understand, he has come into those training sessions after coming back from the injury he arrived with and he’s absolutely wowed them. He’s done really good work in training, and apparently his finishing, especially, is just phenomenal.

“I know the Premier League is a leap, but I do think that maybe he’ll, especially with that big physique, be ready for the Premier League. I mean he is a unit, having stood at pitch-side near and kind of walked by, he is a big lad, he’s just towering over players and coaches.

“Yeah, I think he’s one of those where maybe we see him get a minute or two and he surprises everyone and comes up with it.”

Alejo Veliz – an exciting prospect

Alejo Veliz is one of many South Americans to travel over from the continent as an exciting young prospect.

The Argentina youth international will be hoping to replicate the success of Julian Alvarez, who won the treble last season and has already scored six goals for Man City this season.

Tottenham definitely need to be patient with him, but by the end of the season they could definitely be raving about the young forward as the next Harry Kane.
