Tottenham Hotspur face a trip to Old Trafford this weekend.

Ange Postecoglou will be looking to kick off his 2024 Premier League campaign with a win as they face a tough trip to Manchester to face Erik ten Hag’s side.

Postecgolou does have fond memories of playing the Red Devils. They emerged victorious in the previous fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

An away trip will be more difficult, however, Tottenham’s first-team squad has been bolstered. Timo Werner is in contention to start, but Paul Merson has a burning issue with the German.

Paul Merson on Timo Werner

The ex-Chelsea forward has arrived at Hotspur Way on loan from RB Leipzig, at least until the end of the season.

The former prolific Bundesliga forward will be looking to reignite his career in North London – after a torrid time at Chelsea.

Paul Merson watched a lot of Werner at the Blues, and speaking with SportSkeeda, has identified a burning ‘problem’ with the 27-year-old before he’s even kicked a ball for Spurs.

“Timo Werner has been the talk of the town after sealing a surprise loan move to Tottenham,” Merson begins.

“I watched this guy a lot when he was at Chelsea and I can’t remember a player who was flagged offside more often than him. I can understand a striker being over-eager to get behind the backline if he’s slow, but Werner is lightning-quick, so I have no idea why he always found himself in an offside position.”

Despite this, Merson believes that if he can tackle this issue as soon as possible, he could be an inspired pickup by Postecoglou.

“If he manages to sort out this problem, I truly think this transfer could turn out to be a masterstroke from Ange Postecoglou.”

Paul Merson predicts Manchester United vs Tottenham

Merson also gave his verdict for the Manchester United clash – and thinks Spurs will walk away with a point at Old Trafford. He says:

“‘If Tottenham win this, they’ll leapfrog Arsenal in the table, meaning the Gunners drop out of the top four. Literally three weeks ago, Mikel Arteta’s side was the team to beat and were at the top of the table, but they could be fifth when the action concludes this weekend, which is just unbelievable.

“Manchester United, on the other hand, are nine points behind Arsenal and face an uphill battle to secure a UEFA Champions League spot next season. They need to win this game to stand a chance of finishing in the top four, but they haven’t been consistent this season.

“It’s so hard to predict Manchester United but one thing is for sure – they tend to show up when their backs are up against the wall. I predict a lorry-load of goals in this one and will be shocked if it ends goalless, so I’m going for a 2-2 draw.”

Spurs take on United at 4:30 PM this Sunday, Merson’s made his prediction, let’s see who comes out on top.
