Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has now admitted that Tottenham Hotspur have signed one of the best in the world in one specific position.
A much improved campaign for Tottenham has now come to a close with Europa League in the bag for next season.
Ange Postecoglou has brought a lot of change to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over his short time in north London so far.
The club’s recruitment in the two transfer windows under the Australian so far has also looked much improved with some real talents added to Postecoglou’s squad.
And it seems one player, in particular, has seriously impressed Merson in his first season as a Tottenham player.
The Sky Sports pundit has even gone to the length of hailing him as one of the best in the world in that position.

What Paul Merson had to say about one specific Tottenham player
The former Arsenal player does not often have a lot of positive things to say about Tottenham as he even predicted a bottom-half finish following the sale of Harry Kane in the summer.
However, it seems even he cannot deny how impressed he has been with one of the signings to arrive under Postecoglou.
There have been a number of good buys from the Australian since he landed in London with the likes of Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison both providing upgrades in their positions.
But it is defender Micky van de Ven who is earning the praise this time with Merson blown away by the Dutch defender.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Tottenham’s 2023/24 campaign, Merson admitted the Dutchman was the shining light for Spurs over the course of the campaign.
“The centre-half (Micky Van de Ven) is one of the best in the world, or will be, but he looked 22 at Newcastle [the 4-0 loss in April],” he said.
“When he played against [Alexander] Isak he didn’t really have the solutions but that was his age. Because he’s been so good, against Isak when it went bad, he didn’t know what to do and I watched and I thought, ‘You know what, you’re only 22’. He’s still so young, so I think he’ll be very good but I think next season is a big season for him.”
Tottenham will have their fingers crossed after Micky van de Ven Euros call-up
The Netherlands international has now been confirmed as one of the defenders for this summer’s Dutch squad for the Euros.
A seriously impressive campaign for the £50k-per-week Tottenham defender was slightly tarred by two seperate hamstring injuries.
And this may provide some Spurs fans with an anxious wait over the Euros in seeing Van de Ven come through it unscathed.
Although Radu Dragusin proved himself to be solid cover over the final games of the campaign, the pace Van de Ven provides simply cannot be matched by any other defender.
With Virgil van Dijk and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt also in the squad, Van de Ven may not even find himself on the pitch too frequently.
